Let's learn today's grammar: 只不过/只不過/ zhǐ bú guò

只不过/只不過/ zhǐ bú guò = nothing but, only, merely
Key 1:
只不过=只(only), but it's a way to emphasize the tone
Key 2:
只不过 often goes with "是(be)", then we add a verb or a noun.

(1) 只不过是+ N.
他只不过是个骗子。
他只不過是個騙子。
tā zhǐ bú guò shì ge piàn zi
He is nothing but a liar.

(2) 只不过是+V.
我只不过是开玩笑的。
我只不過是開玩笑的。
wǒ zhǐ bú guò shì kāi wán xiào de 。
I am just kidding.
