爱护ài hù  VS 爱惜ài   

(1)   Both of them are in HSK 5.
(2)   Both of them are verbs.

爱护环境ài    huán  jìng  (protect the environment)

爱惜ài    : love and cherish
1.     used for something related to yourself such as fame or body)
2.     public facilities, natural resources
爱惜身体ài    shēn  (cherish your body)
爱惜水ài    shuǐ   (cherish water)

Roughly speaking, they can be interchangeable.

HSK 5-6: 安慰/安慰ài xī  (v.)
to comfort; to console   
弟弟输了比赛,爸爸正在安慰他。
弟弟輸了比賽,爸爸正在安慰他。
My younger brother lost the game.
Father is comforting him.

安慰[n. a comfort] can be a noun, too.

得知她的儿子通过HSK考试,对林太太来说是莫大的安慰。
dé zhī tā de ér zi tōng guò HSK kǎo shì duì lín tài tai lái shuō shì mò dà de ān wèi It is such a great comfort to Mrs. Lin to know that her son has passed the HSK test.

HSK 5-7: 安装/安裝 ān zhuāng (v)
to install [machines, computer programs]

shuǐ guǎn gōng míng tiān yào lái wǒ jiā ān zhuāng xǐ yī jī
The plumbers are coming to my home tomorrow to install the washing machine.

HSK 5-8: àn (n.) shore; river bank; coast
[海岸 (hǎi àn) seashore,河岸 (hé àn) river bank]
这对情侣沿着海岸散步。
這對情侶沿著海岸散步。
zhè duì qíng lǚ yán zhe hǎi àn sàn bù
This couple took a walk along the seashore.

Normally, 情侣(qíng lǚ ) means “unmarried couple”, like your girlfriend or boyfriend.
When we say 爱侣 (ài lǚ), then definitely this person is your spouse.


Both (duì) and (shuāng) are measure words for “pair.” Sometimes, they’re interchangeable.

a pair of chopsticks:
一对筷子yí duì kuài zi (O)
一双筷子yì shuāng kuài zi (O)

a pair of wings
一对翅膀yí duì chì bǎng  (O)
一双翅膀yì shuāng chì bǎng  (O)

But still they have some differences:

(duì)  is for genders, things with right and left, two identical things, mostly not for body organs
(shuāng) is for things with right and left. Especially for body organs and objects

一对花瓶yí duì huā píng
一双腿 shuāng tuǐ


Sentence Pattern of “沿着-along”:

Subject + 沿着 + a place + Verb.

(1)
乞丐沿着街行乞。
乞丐沿著街行乞。
qǐ gài yán zhe jiē xíng qǐ
The beggar begged along the street.

(2)
他们沿着小路散步。
他們沿著小路散步。
tā men yán zhe xiǎo lù sàn bù
They took a stroll along the path.


HSK 5-9: (adj.) dark
房间太暗了,请开灯。
房間太暗了,請開燈。
fáng jiān tài àn le qǐng kāi dēng
The room is too dark. Please switch on the light.

Likewise, in Chinese, (àn) can be used to modify “dark color.”

In order to pass the HSK, she stays up late every night.

为了 [+ n./v.]:
“for the purpose of”/ “in order to”
为了学习汉语,他每晚在在线与中国人交谈。
wèi le xué xí hàn yǔ
tā měi wǎn zài zài xiàn yǔ zhōng guó rén jiāo tán
“In order to” learn Chinese, he talks to Chinese people online every night.

有害yǒu hài: do harm to; be harmful to
有益yǒu yì: do good to; be beneficial to

多吃蔬果对身体有益。
duō chī shū guǒ duì shēn tǐ yǒu yì
Eating more vegetables and fruit is good to your body.

吸烟对健康有害。
xī yān duì jiàn kāng yǒu hài
Smoking is harmful to health.
